“Use a picture. It’s worth a thousand words.” Arthur Brisbane 1911.

An image offers an opportunity to see endless possibilities depending on the viewer’s perspective. Where some might see beauty and joy, others imagine sadness and loss of hope.

In this collection, images and syllabic poetry are brought together to tell a story based on the author’s perspective. The poetry explores our human experiences such as love, happiness, hope, aging, friendship, new beginnings, dreams and loss.

The world around us is an amazing playground and source of all our essential needs as well as sensory experiences that bring wonder into our lives. What lies beyond the horizon? What surprises will we discover as a garden bursts into bloom? Where do the night creatures live?

At the end of the collection there are some longer poems celebrating memories of the author’s life of travel, teenage exploits and love of food!

My review

Life is like a mosaic is the perfect title for this collection of poems where every word in each individual poem is a small tile the works to create a perfect word picture, and all the poems collectively form a complete picture of life and love.

Each poem is accompanied by a carefully selected picture that complements the poem and prepares the mind for the poetry story.

The poet touches on a vast array of topics ranging from the isolation of lockdown, the stealthy march of aging, the natural world, the joy of life and the full spectrum of human emotions, to immortality and the future. There is also a delightful section about the poet’s own childhood including pictures.

This beautiful book is perfect for people who want to embrace life and wallow decadently in its rich fullness.

About Sally Cronin

Sally has enjoyed a nomadic existence living in eight countries including Sri Lanka, Malta, South Africa, USA and Spain, before settling back here in Ireland. Her work, and a desire to see some of the most beautiful parts of the world in the last forty years, has taken her to many more incredible destinations around Europe and Canada, and across the oceans to New Zealand and Hawaii. All those experiences and the people that she has met, provide a rich source of inspiration for her stories.

After a career in customer facing roles in the hospitality, retail, advertising and telecommunications industry, Sally wrote and published her first book in 1999 called Size Matters, about her weight loss journey, losing 150lbs in 18 months. This has been followed by 14 further fiction and non-fiction books, including a number of short story collections.

Sally’s first book release resulted in a radio interview in Spain that led to four years as a nutritional consultant for an English language station, and this was followed by four years with her own health show and Sunday morning show on local radio station in the UK and then as station director, newsreader and presenter for an online television station.

As a writer she knows how important it is to have help in marketing books and from 2002 Sally have been working with authors on their book launches and publicity. At that time it was very much physical book launches and press coverage locally to stimulate national interest.. Today it is very different with a global market via the worldwide web.

As important as her own promotion is, Sally believes it is important to support others within the writing community. She offers a number of FREE promotional opportunities on her blog, linked to her social media. If you are an author who would like to be promoted to a new audience of dedicated readers, please contact Sally via my blog. All it will cost you is a few minutes of your time. Sally looks forward to hearing from you.

  1. I love Sally’s writing and her most recent creative way to express herself. The best thing about this mosaic: Every word in each individual poem is a small tile the works to create a perfect word picture. Perfect blend of art and lit. Yay, Sally. I will share this!

  2. This sounds like a wonderful combination of poetry and images. I have yet to read one of Sally’s books, but I definitely need to pick one up, maybe I will start with this one. Wonderful review Robbie.

      1. The tomato explosion is on the way! I’ve had a tomato sandwich for supper for the past several days. There is nothing like the taste of a tomato picked from the garden and eaten right away. Yum!

  3. I typically don’t read much poetry, but I may have to make an exception with this one as I’ve seen many of Sally’s excellent poems.
