This week Colleen has left the choice of words up to us. I am feeling rather exhausted having worked long days for the past week and a half. I have, as usual, expressed how I am feeling in these poems:
Mental devastation
Complete exhaustion
Can be quite devastating
To your well being
Dealing with overwork
When work overwhelms
And rest is hard to achieve
Try to snatch small breaks
It is better than nothing
And prevents total collapse
Chewed up string
Sometimes I feel like
a long piece of chewed up string
that cannot ever
become straight and true again
the bends and kinks will remain

I too love the imaginative use of chewed up string which will never get straight again. Hope you get some well deserved rest.

At the end of next week, Elizabeth, things will calm down. I am glad you liked that image.

I remember those days – going to bed at 1 a.m. and getting up before 6 a.m. for all my work life. After I retired I still woke up at 6 a.m.!!
How can I say to you something I couldn’t do, Robbie? I do it anyway, good idea to take catnaps. 🙂

It’s fine, Miriam, for a short period. I couldn’t live my whole life like this. All work makes life boring.

I hope you’ll work out to take short break more often, even once a month may be good. The last 10 years of my full time job, I took major vacation once a year and weekend trip as often as we could (to breath).

There has to be a genre for poetry that helps–this fits. Nicely worded, Robbie.

Thank you, Jacqui. My husband was amused by the piece of chewed up string analogy. We are both under pressure at the moment.

Rest whenever and wherever is best Robbie. A piece of string that gets bent and knotted can become straight again .. lovely imagery 🙂

It hasn’t let up yet. A few more days to go and then I should be able to take a break for a few days until the next cycle starts.

“Breakations” and naps are very important when we have weeks like these. Your poetry describes your exhaustion very clearly. I loved the last Tanka, it has great imagery. I hope you can get some relief soon. ❤
