Open a new door, a collection of poems
Today’s poem was inspired by the famous poem, Television, by Roald Dahl. In this poem, Roald Dahl takes a humorous look at the problem of children watching excessive amounts of TV and no longer reading.
My poem, called The grandparents, isn’t about as important a topic, but it takes a humorous look at the significant role of grandparents in our modern world. Many of us rely heavily on grandparents to help us raise our children in double income and busy homes.
About The grandparents
I wrote this poem about all the grannies and granddads that help their children to bring up their grandchildren in this crazy modern world of ours. I frequently see them at the school, filling in when mom and dad can’t be there and helping out everywhere they can. God bless grannies and granddads everywhere.

Thank you, Pete. I am very fond of grandparents. Children who have engaged grandparents are very lucky, and I was one.

Roald Dahl was a favorite of many of my students. Seldom did I make it through a school year without reading The BFG, among others. Nice work, Robbie!

I love Roald Dahl too, Pete. His adult works as well as his children’s books. My favourites are The Witches, James and the Giant Peach [I love the centipede and Miss Spider] and the BFG. The only two I didn’t like that much were Danny, Champion of the World and the one about the tortoise.

Hi Cathleen, that is very nice of you. This book was actually published a few years ago, but I haven’t really marketed it much so not many people know about it. I have a resurgence of interest in poetry recently and am putting together a poetry anthology for publication in April/May this year and also plan another poetry book of my own.

Well, then I’ll look forward to reading that one as well. Something’s wrong with our lives if we can’t carve out a little time for poetry. : )
