My thanks again to John Rieber for giving me this great idea of making a series of Covid-19 memories cakes with a nursery rhyme or fairy tale twist.
Today, I am unveiling my twisted version of Hansel and Gretel. The wicked witch is peeping out from behind her gingerbread house. She no longer wishes to attract children to her home as they are Covid-19 vectors and she is high risk due to her age and health issues. The witch is wearing a mask and has a bottle of hand sanitizer handy. She’s changed her signs welcoming the children to ones telling them to go away.
Love it 🙂

Yes, it is twisted, Liz. It came to mind when I read an article about children being vectors.

I’ve read articles along the same lines. Definitely puts one off being around children other than one’s own.

A very good twist on the story even though Hansel and Gretel were dangerous enough without a virus.

Thank is true, Frank, but the witch wanted to eat Hansel so I guess she did deserve it. Fairy tales are very unfairy like, aren’t they?

I don’t see it as twisted – I see it as very cute!

Thank you, Jessica. It is a bit twisted, depending on how you look at it, but if you take the perspective that the young are infecting the old because they don’t get very sick, it is a bit scary.

I like this version. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of a story I used to love to read to my students called The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieska. It is told by the wolf’s point of view and paints him as a victim. Here is a YouTube of someone reading it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m75aEhm-BYw

This sounds like a great story, Pete. I like these twisted stories from another perspective.

I listened to the story, Pete. It’s very good. I think I may write a story of Hansel and Gretel like this to go with my cake.

Hahaha so cute and poor kids to be told not to come to her house because of Covid-19. Lovely and awesome cakes as always, Robbie. Congrats.

very clever – love the creativity. How soon after making such a cake do you eat it?

Usually pretty quickly, Jim. I assemble on the Saturday and we eat it on the Sunday. Gingerbread, however, lasts much longer. We will eat this on Friday as it is my nephew’s birthday.

that’s a win-win. Create something that you could write about, and that you could then eat!

Yes, they will, Jacqui [and they effectively are, if you look at how this is playing out in the real world.]

Thank you, Susan. We haven’t eaten this one yet. It’s my nephew’s birthday on Friday and we will enjoy it then. Luckily gingerbread lasts a bit longer.
