Sue Vincent gave us this interesting photograph for this week’s Thursday photo challenge together with the word “portal”. You can join in the prompt here: https://scvincent.com/2017/12/07/thursday-photo-prompt-portal-writephoto/
A new beginning
As she walked along the long passage towards the door at the end, she felt as if she was moving towards a portal to another life. Her long, black cloak flapped around her ankles and her stomach churned with anticipation. Her black hat sat uncomfortably on her head. As she glanced around she caught the excited expressions on her peers faces.
Once through the door everything she had worked so hard for would culminate in the receipt of her Honours degree in Accounting. She would be moving away from her carefree life as a student and into the life of a working career woman. It was a new beginning.

I never actually attended my graduation, Shey. It was to far away as I did correspondence university. This is how I imagine it would have felt.

I thought there was another wee story behind the story xxxx

Portal wasn’t the first thing that came to mind when I saw that picture, but what you wrote made perfect sense when I looked again.

You are a ‘witch’ accountant in your cap and gown.

I am really worn out from this year now, Kim. Witch is probably a good description.

I does read that way but I didn’t attend my graduation because of the distance (I did correspondence). This is how I imagine it feels.

That is a great description of graduation, Robbie. I remember that walk, finishing my MBA. Frightening but gratifying.

Do I detect a hint of autobiography here Robbie. if so a new string to your bow.. and if not, it was still beautifully captured.

Thank you, Paul. I do have degrees in Accounting but I didn’t have a graduation as I did long-distance studying while I worked. So this is fictional. I will attend my boys graduations in due course. Greg achieved three examination scores in the 90%. I am so proud.

You know Robbie that is a bit unfair they didn’t have a graduation ceremony for long distance students. Working full time and studying you worked a lot harder than full time students and so deserved the acknowledgement even more! Gregory’s scores are brilliant. I ‘m not surprised you are proud of him! Tell him congrats!

Thanks so much Robbie, I do hope so, I have had one fabulous result back and one dreadful one which has knocked my confidence quite a bit!

We all have setbacks in our academic careers, Judy. I hated cost accounting and it was never my strongest area. I soldiered on and did fine in the end.

Ooo, what elicit pagan ritual is this? Great way of making a mundane, if still special, ceremony a bit more magical.
