#Writephoto – What is a window?

What is a window?

The little one cried

What, indeed, I thought

Is a window?

A transparent sheet of glass

to let in sunshine and light

A barrier against the elements

to keep the cold out

A one-way invention

to allow one to spy on another

A barricade in a hospital nursery

to keep babies safe from germs

and from people of ill intent too

if I really think about it

A tribute to our Lord

resplendent in many colours

A peep into another world

of splendor and opulence

An opening into a physical hell

from which all instinctively recoil

An obstruction to the freedom

I can see on the other side

An impediment to a bullet

meant for the controversial person inside

The eyes of a beautiful woman

giving insight into her soul

An opportunity to be seized

and made the most of if you dare

What, indeed, is a window?

I opened my mouth and said

Why, a window can be anything

Depending on what is in your heart

And how you look at life

And embrace all it has to offer.

That is a window!

  1. I spent most of Mass today staring at the large window over the altar of Jesus on the throne surrounded by the Disciples. We just had all the windows washed at church, and the blues are amazing.
