Reena’s Xploration Challenge
Reena’s challenge for this week is to write a poem inspired by the following wording:
She kept the clock running backward, just to see which regrets would return first.
For me, this fitted nicely into the dreams theme so I’m using this poem as a demo for the Sunflower Tanka Dreams anthology and for Reena’s Xploration Challenge which you can join here: https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2025/08/07/reenas-xploration-challenge-393/
Mellowing of Dreams (rensaku)
hindsight’s clarity
pierces childhood memories
unravelling joys
and long days of happiness
dreams of youth revisited
***
young girl’s ambitions
white wedding among flowers
stripped right to bare bone
goals achievement considered
dreams of youth revisited
***
senior school learner
individuality
suppressed to conform
with pack ideas of coolness
dreams of youth revisited
***
young professional
climbing the corporate ladder
harshest lesson learned
be careful what you wish for
dreams of youth revisited
***
middle age entered
edges mellowed by losses
contentment new goal
value of health understood
dreams of youth revisited
CFFC
Dan’s CFFC challenge is afternoon. You can join in here: https://nofacilities.com/2025/08/11/time-of-day-afternoon-cffc/ The following pictures are afternoon scenes that could also translate as the fulfilment of a dream or the objective of a dream. Perhaps one of them will inspire you with dreams related poetry.

A wonderful collection of afternoon photos.

The poem is profound, it raises thoughts of the progression of life. I love the photo of the elephant, a favorite animal and your wedding photo is beautiful. I love how photos always remind us of the many precious moments in our lives

Congratulations to Greg and to you for the wedding photo, full of something–wistfulness, anticipation?
Cliff just found a photo of me walking down the aisle at our wedding. I don’t remember seeing it before. Serendipity?

I wouldn’t live on one but a few weeks holiday might be an adventure. These houseboats cost millions of Euro.

Thank you, Tandy. Education, even in art, ends up being about conformity even if it’s chaos art. They teach artists to do it the way of the art snob circle. I am a non conformist and always have been.

I think waking dreams are very different from sleep dreams.
Some of my sleep dreams, more times than not are nightmares… I don’t even try to figure them out and am relieved if I can forget them when I wake.
Waking dreams are like a Bucket List. I think I’ve had a good share of success. There is room for more… when opportunity knocks.
All the best to the graduates!

Other than recurring nightmares relating to the death of my biological father and both sons’ ill health. I do not dream at night. I have ideas which could be called dreams that I work towards fulfilling.

I have dreams of folks I’ve lost…too. Though I find it strange, because I know somewhere in the back of my mind that they don’t exist ‘here’ anymore.
The best to all the wonderful ideas that are day dreams that I am sure you will fulfill. 🙂 💕

Thanks, Carla. I’d forgotten about this poem and I’m pleased to have the reminder. There’s always new stuff in my head and it pushes out older things.

When I would forget things my daughter used to tell me that my mind was full of thoughts and sometimes new ones pushed out the old ones, so it was okay if I forget things sometimes. Of course, she was a lot younger then, I don’t think she remembers saying that.
