For this week’s Tanka Tuesday, Willow has asked poets to create a taiga. You can learn about taiga and join in this challenge here: https://tankatuesday.com/2025/08/05/tank-tuesday-poetry-challenge-24-a-taiga/
Esther Chilton’s writing challenge last week was Voice. I am late but my taiga were inspired by her challenge which you can read about here: https://estherchilton.co.uk/2025/07/30/writing-prompts-76/
The birds are for Don’t Hold Your Breath’s bird of the week invitation: https://anotherglobaleater.wordpress.com/2025/08/05/mountain-hawk-eagle-birds-of-the-week-invitation-cxxviii

Raising his Voice
loud, booming rumble
reverberates across the sand
heard for miles around
male ostrich raises his voice
claiming his territory

Roar of the Ostrich
mating on his mind
black male inflates his long neck
producing a roar
aimed at attracting favour
from dowdy opposite sex
Sunday Stills and Thursday Doors

Wow ! that seafood dish looks delicious esp in light of the algal bloom that has infected our coastal areas —but that strawberry pancake …. my mouth is watering: I don’t know if I can hold out to dinner time 😦 enjoyed the poems too, Robbie, esp ‘Roar of the Ostrich’ —

Oh! Robbie , great photos and Taiga I love those Ostriches ….we saw those too on Safari the guide said if one ran at you, you should lie down if they charge you as if you are standing they will knock you down and that would kill you.
The doors you did for Thursday doors are lovely and full of delicious food 💜💜💜

The food looks amazing.

Hi Maggie, when you see a real ostrich, their huge size makes a roar seem very reasonable. I’m glad you enjoyed. 5 challenges in one post is a record for me 🤣😂

Best wishes, Pete.

Hi Pete, I always try to eat traditional food in a different country. It’s usually better. In London, I could only find English food in pubs. All the other restaurants were foreign food.

The most famous restaurant for British food is Rules, in Covent Garden. But it is high-end and very expensive. Also the oldest restaurant in the city, and very popular.
