I have written a tanka poem
Young girl
Youthful aspirant
to a noble destiny
gazes hopefully
into a cloudy future
and appeals for clarity
by Robbie Cheadle
Well done, Robbie. Your words were similar to what I felt when I first saw the photo on Balroop’s blog.

I like it! (With that skull on the table, I think seeking clarity is a prudent thing to do.)

Yes, indeed, maybe the skull could be the outcome of uncontrolled climate change.

I could not have said it better, Robbie. You rose to the challenge with a lovely image, possibly a pre-Raphaelite painting.

Hi Marian, I don’t know anything about the painting and have not yet looked it up. I’m glad you enjoyed my poem. I’m trying to write more poetry this year.

I’ve actually never thought about it, Jim. This was inspired by my son receiving his final school examination results.

I am sure that is a time of great uncertainty; I look forward to hearing what your son decides…

Oh, I do like that thought, especially the idea of “appeals for clarity” as a young person, just ready to take that next step into the unknown.

Hi REbecca, this painting made me think of all the young students in SA who have just received their final year of school results and are embarking on new and exciting futures.

Hi Debby, that is true. With so much information available to people now, we all know a lot. I don’t think people questioned governments and authority figures much in the past. We don’t seem to get proper answers though, do we?

HI Diana, I have just read yours which is totally splendid. I am glad you liked mine. I am trying to write a poem a week this year as I think it is good for my soul.

I did like it, Robbie. Reading the range of responses is fascinating. And once a week would be marvelous. I would totally fail at that, so once a month will do. Happy Writing!

Hi Colleen, thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed this poem. Poetry definitely works a different part of your brain to prose so I’m trying to stick to my writing plan of one poem a week.
