Robbie’s Inspiration – Colleen’s Double Ennead Challenge No. 10 – The Romance of the Sunflowers

Colleen’s Double Ennead Challenge No. 10 involves writing a poem inspired by a Van Gogh painting. I took a little bit of poetic license with the painting and have written my poem for one of Van Gogh’s Sunflower paintings because I wanted to write something bright and happy.

Without further ado, here is my Romance of the Sunflowers:

Sun’s early morning light

Bathes the golden field

Adoring young faces greet him smilingly

Basking in his soft warmth

Dressed for the day

***

Full of admiration

The girls watch him move

Standing tall in tribute at the midway point

No gentle breeze disturbs

His fleeting triumph

***

Heat, thick and syrupy

Dazzling heads at rest

But still mindful of their lover’s bright presence

Peeping westward at dusk

They kiss him goodnight.
