Colleen’s challenge this month: Let’s celebrate Halloween together by writing a persona poem in the style of a double ennead. Be creative! Let your imagination run wild! Have fun! You can find her post here: https://carrotranch.com/2021/10/18/saddle-up-saloon-colleens-doubleennead-challenge-no-9/
This task proved to be a little more challenging than I anticipated, but I have managed to write the poem below that goes with my Happy Holiday Halloween Hextravaganza.
Happy Holiday Halloween Hextravaganza
Hard, disapproving eyes
View my family
Our difference not readily accepted
By your society
How we pity you
A small-minded approach
Is so limiting
Freedoms we enjoy, prohibited to you
Exploration of unusual places
By the moon’s pale light
Sea serpent splashes about
We watch full of glee
As the cat escapes a muddy green shower
And baby burns the grass
Do you have any fun?

Splendid! I have yet to join this challenge. You did a terrific job with it!

What a fabulous double ennead to go with your Halloween gingerbread baking challenge. I know I voted! It was great fun, Robbie. 🧡

Hi Colleen, thank you for this interesting challenge. It wasn’t as easy as I thought to write this.

I think the first time is hard, but after that it gets easier. Once you get the hang of it, you can write 99 syllables in whatever way you want. Thanks for joining in, Robbie. You did so good on you Halloween houses. ❤

I had to look up ennead – I’m clueless about anything poetry-related, lol. Enjoyed your hextravaganza, Robbie!

Hi Teri, I just follow Colleen’s instructions, as I also don’t know all these unusual poetry forms.

that does look a challenging style, but you have risen to the challenge. and yes, a small-minded approach can be so limiting… but reading is an effective antidote…

Hi Jim, you are right that readings makes a different, but not everyone reads, sadly.

Hi Diana, your poetry is an inspiration and I thank you for your support and comments. I try to challenge myself, it helps keep me sane, especially with the world as upside down as it is right now.

It requires a lot of focus, so a good way to tune out the rest of the world. If beautiful poetry keeps you sane, keep writing it.

you rocked it Robbie, love your cake creations and your double ennead. Well done but the cracks are appearing as your sea serpent splashes about 🙂

Hi Kate, I’m glad you enjoyed. I had to plan those cracks in the meringue. I made it crack by raising the temperature and effectively cooking it to fast.

lol I thought it must have been something like that, quite dramatic … maybe if I add some colour to my bad cooking people will appreciate it more 🙂

Haha, and add a sea monster with a duckie ring.
