Day 6 of this tour was hosted by author Shirley Harris-Slaughter. This post is all about Sir Chocolate and the Fondant Five story and cookbook and includes step-by-step instructions on how to make a chick out of an Easter egg and fondant. Thank you for hosting me, Shirley.

About Shirley Harris-Slaughter
Shirley Harris-Slaughter’s first book highlights her passion for history which led to her first published work, Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African American Catholic Community. But she wouldn’t have been able to write that book had she not had the presence of mind to conquer the health crisis she found herself in. She is an advocate for natural health and healing. Any problem that she had to face, she found her way out of it through sheer determination.
This led to her second book CRAZY! HOT! AND LIVING ON THE EDGE!! She has written a couple of short stories including contributing essays in her Book Club’s Rave Soups Series.
She spends most of her time these days watching movies and episodes of “Suits.”
My review of Crazy! Hot! And Living on the Edge!! by Shirley Harris-Slaughter
This book is an interesting mixture of a memoir and a self help book. The author takes readers on her journey of life, sharing her experiences which include marital abuse and divorce as well as the loss of loved ones. Shirley Harris-Slaughter’s resilience in the face of adversity, devotion to family and ability to overcome her complex and debilitating health problems is impressive. It did not surprise me, however, to learn the details of the author’s health issues, many of which are stress and anxiety related.
I found myself agreeing that our medical system is struck in a rut of treating symptoms rather than underlying causes although this is often not the fault of our overworked medical practitioners. Alternative medicines and treatment programs like diet plans are frequently not made available to patients who are rather given quick fix medications which have negative side effects which compound over time.
The author provides detailed insights into the steps she took to heal her own body and mind through a healthier and more nutritious diet comprising of fresh and unprocessed foods. The author does acknowledge that modern medicine does play a role in treating illnesses but expresses her belief and experience that overlying healthy eating and life practices like meditation over medications like antibiotics and anti depressants, can greatly reduced their harmful side effects.
The author’s style of writing is frank and conversational with lots of humour and sharp observations thrown in which makes this book an enjoyable and entertaining read.

Excellent coverage, Robbie, as usual! And what a dear little chick…The very best of luck to Shirley, the author of the book. Mental health problems are always difficult as there’s no bandage visible…(was there in my fifties…No joke!) Hugs xx

HI Joy, thank you for your comment. I am interested to learn you had a period of mental health difficulties. You seem to have handled life’s difficulties with so much aplomb.

Bless you, Robbie. I do my best! My gloomy period was due to four deaths too near to each other and two were especially painful. Odd as it sounds, I learned a lot about human nature during that time and can now completely empathize with what some poor souls have to endure. So, it was a plus in the end,…Carry on doing the delightful things you do, Robbie. Whatever brings smiles to faces is ace with me! Hugs xx

A great combination for a blog tour, as it does not only offer great recipes and a reminder of the lovely Sir Chocolate series of books, but also highlights the work of the authors, and Shirley’s very personal book will interest many. Thanks, Robbie and good luck with the tour.
