Many of you will remember the poetry readathon that I ran during November and part of December 2018 and part of January this year. The readathon comprised of a selection of five questions that were answered by each participating poet as well as the sharing of one of their poems. I also read and reviewed a number of poetry books by participating poets.
The idea behind the readathon was to introduce poetry lovers to poetry bloggers and published poets and I think it was very successful. I enjoyed watching our poetry family engaging with one another and meeting new friends.
I have decided to run it again this year and am inviting interested poets to please email me. This year I would like to publish a poem with special meaning by each participating poet and the reasons as to why they wrote this particular poem and why it has special meaning for them.
I will be reviewing the following poetry books over this period:
- Reflections: Poems, Songs and Muses by author, song writer and poet Kevin Cooper;
- Short & not always Sweet by poet Dorinda Duclos
- Dizzyrambin Imaginings: A Collection of Poetic Musings by G.J. Griffith
- The New Asylum: a memoir of psychiatry (Poetry Memoir Book 3) by Frank Prem
I would like to read and review four more poetry books.
I also have the following three poets participating with a poem as detailed above and I will feature one of their books, if they have one:
- Sue Vincent;
- Danny Kemp;
- Lorraine from BlindWilderness blog
I would like to feature five more poets.
If you would like to participate, please email me through my contacts page.
If you would to join my poetry sharing group on Facebook, you will find it here: Poetry sharing group
Can you? a poem
Can you trust your eyes
really believe what they see
or is it only
an illusion or cheap trick
behind which the real truth lurks

Robbie, great that you’re running this again and I will be eagerly awaiting the posts, poems and stories behind them. A wonderful opportunity for all poets out there and you are generous to give space and time to them, to celebrate the diversity and wonder of the lyrical form. I loved the quote … how true! Happy Weekend to you and your family! X

I wait in trepidation for the beginning to begin. I have never been in a readathon so my heart is all a spin. I do so hope I’m successful and if there’s a trophy then selfishly I hope I do win!

Thank you, Danny. Selfishness is at the heart of all achievement. I hope it will help some new potential readers find both your blog and your books.

Wow! This is quite the undertaking.
I Iook forward to reading. Saying what really motivated a poem is really telling on oneself. This should be interesting reading.

Hi Pat, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I often wonder, when I read reviews of my own poems, how correct the academic interpretations of a poets motivations are. I thought it would be interesting to see what the real motivations are behind poems from the writers.

Did you find that others conclusion of your motivation was far removed from where the poem actually came from? It should be a fascinating read. Oh, I was looking back on your blog to find last year’s entries with no luck, ( I’m using a phone). When you have a moment can you send me a link if it’s still up?

Hi Pat, the Poetry Readathon last year had a large number of posts but here are a few: https://robbiesinspiration.wordpress.com/2018/11/22/poetryreadathon-poetry-poetry-everywhere-part-1/; https://robbiesinspiration.wordpress.com/2018/12/01/poetryreadathon-meet-poetry-blogger-walt-page/; https://robbiesinspiration.wordpress.com/2018/12/03/poetryreadathon-meet-author-poet-and-blogger-sue-vincent/
It depends with my poetry, some people are spot on and others see things that I really had not thought of at all.

Hi Robbie, I don’t have any poetry books (only novels), but do write poetry. Can I still take part?

Hi Stevie, yes you can. You just need to email me a poem you have written that means a lot to you together with a few paragraphs about what motivated you to write it and why you wrote it.

So glad you are doing this poetry/readathon, Robbie. Excellent idea. I can’t wait to read the poems and the stories behind them. I’d consider sending you one of my poems, but I don’t consider myself a poet. I just ‘dabble’ at it here and there because I find that poetry soothes the soul and also answers some of the questions swirling inside us.

Hi Pam, you don’t have to be a published poet to participate in this series. It is for anyone who has written a poem that is special to them so that they can share it and the reasons they wrote it.
