Charli Mills’ flash fiction prompt for this week is as follows: March 14, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes a chisel. Use chisel as a noun or a verb. Think about what might be chiseled, who is chiseling. Be the chisel. Go where the prompt leads!
Toys for boys
Dan slammed his toolbox down on the table. “My new paint scrapper is missing. I haven’t even used it yet.”
“Are you sure it’s gone?”
“Yes,” he opened the box. “See, it’s gone. You haven’t seen it anywhere, have you?”
“No,” said Julie, thinking of the little fondant man who was reposing on the paint scrapper in her art cupboard. It was a great tool for moving her artworks with and she planned to keep it.
She smiled at him. “Why don’t you leave your toolbox in the kitchen until you find it?” His chisel had caught her eye.

A tale based on personal experience, Robbie? 😂

A BOTS perchance?

I would be lying if I told you it was a BOTS, Geoff. I actually made it up because the thought has crossed my mind.

That sounds like a good use for a paint scraper or chisel.

I thought so too, Frank.

Good use of the prompt. Now you can put the scraper back.

Not a chance, John. Possession is 9 10ths of the law, didn’t you know?

I heard that somewhere. I think it was when my neighbor took my gate. I let him have his way because I didn’t want him to take offense.

Ha ha. This made me smile. Is it a true story??

It is not true, Diana, but the thought has crossed my mind.

We’ve a similar predicament with ‘misuse’ of tools here. 🙂

Absolutely, I didn’t actually use the paint scrapper but I have washed and used his hammer and wire cutters.

Lol… Robbie, do you, perchance, use tools you shouldn’t, to make your fondant art sometimes?

You do know that all is forgiven with art, Ritu? I have never used a paint scrapper but hammers and wire cutters are another story entirely.

We each have our own. I keep all my fondant making stuff in a tool box. If his stuff sometimes gets put away in the wrong box, it isn’t really my fault, now is it?

Those wood chisels remind me of my grandmother. I used to whittle wood with her.

I am embarrassed to say, Tandy, that I didn’t know what a chisel was. I had to ask my dad to show me his.

I have one, Barbara, it just happens to contain a few “borrowed” tools.

Finders keepers? Julie is smart.
Robbie, I revised the book review of Open a New Door and submitted it again.

I think I kind of know what they’re looking for in the reviews. A couple people wrote reviews of my book and got rejected because of too much personal feelings.
I rewrote yours and Colleen’s, got posted right away.

Haha.. Love this little story, and many a tool from the tool box comes in handy.. Just as how some of my sewing scissors find their way into the green house! 🙂
Enjoy your weekend Robbie, Sending love and Hugs your way ❤

Thank you, Sue. I am fussy about my baking scissors and knives as I can’t use them if they become blunt. If Terence took either I would be cross with him. Life is, unfortunately, never fair [smile].

Julie didn’t ‘steal’ Dan’s tools. She simply repurposed them. Haha! Perfect flash, Robbie.

Robbie, this is very well-written with so much in just the 99 words. I like Julie’s creative thinking and how you draw on your own passion for baking. Great comments as well which is just what you want with a story!😀
Wishing you a lovely weekend, Robbie – will it be as busy as usual? xx

I am glad you enjoyed this, Annika. I am very good at making do with household items when I create. This weekend has been a long one as yesterday (Thursday) was a public holiday and today I only worked the morning. I am trying to finish editing my new book by the end of this weekend – 30 pages to go. I am taking my boys and a friend and my nephews ice skating tomorrow and having family for tea on Sunday, so yes, a bit busy.
