Did I ever mention that I work in Capital Markets. My little work team deals with the rules and regulations of various stock exchanges. To date I have worked with the listings requirements for Johannesburg, London, Toronto, Australia, New York, Frankfurt, Paris, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Namibia and Kenya. I also have some knowledge of the rules and regulations for Zambia, Nigeria and Ghana. How could you not like such a fascinating job!
I have a small team of ladies who work primarily with me and what special people they are.
First up is Delightful Donna. She is exactly like Snow White in the Disney Movie. She is quite happy to keep house for all the rest of us and forgive the wicked Queen for poisoning her. A nicer person you could not hope to find and we could not do without her. I am dedicating the song Whistle While You Work from the film to Donna:
Then there is Beautiful Bianca. Bianca has only been part of this team for a short while but is already indispensable. Bianca reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast; she knows there is a beast out there and she is prepared to face him but she isn’t quite sure what she has got herself into. She is also most accommodating of partners and clients who reach out to her for assistance and is doing a great job of getting to an answer almost entirely on her own.
I am dedicating Be Our Guest from this movie to Bianca:
Lovely Lara is the youngest member of our team. She is a bit like Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. We are keeping her in the dark about the wicked fairy out there and telling her not to speak to strangers but we are also bestowing her with some gifts to deal with her when she does make an appearance. I think, to poor Lara, the rest of us are a bit like the good fairies in the movie trying to make Aurora’s dress – we don’t always agree on the colour!
Lastly, there is me. I used to think I was the Queen of Hearts – All ways are my way but I have come to realise that I would actually expect my team to paint the white roses red if that is what the situation called for. I have decided that I am more like Alice, when I get to a crossroads and the sigh post is not clear, I will make a choice and decide on a path regardless. Fortunately, the paths I chose usually end up in the right place.
I am dedicating my absolutely favourite Disney song to myself. Painting the roses red:
Of course, I could also be the White Rabbit as I am alway chasing my tail and am invariably late. I also fancy the idea of the March Hare…
Thank you to Disney and Google for the pictures and songs.
Have a great Sunday!
BTW, if you should chance to come across my Mother, do not tell her about this post, she already thinks I am quite mad and write absolute rubbish!

What a lovely way to honour your workmates, Robbie. It sounds a lovely workplace with a great team. I know all the songs but Painting the Roses Red, and unfortunately it won’t play for me here. Nevermind, I can probably Google it and get it to work.

Yes, the video’s don’t work in some jurisdictions. Alice in Wonderland is by far my favourite Disney movie.

Hmm what Disney character would I be? King Louie probably when in work mode. Though the number of rabbit holes I went down as a Lawyer makes me think it could easily have been an Alice wannabe too. Oh and as a former commercial lawyer who once struggled with listing rules and their Byzantine complexity and frustrating absurdities you are either Nemo or the Wicked Witch depending what you are doing to them!

You are quite right about that, Geoff. Corporate law is like the land of Oz. King Louie is a pretty cool character.

Such a cute post! Sounds like an interesting job with a great team! Who would I be? Perhaps Goldilocks always curious and trying different things until the problem is solved.

When you mentioned Alice, I immediately thought of the White Rabbit…I’m always chasing my tail, rushing around!! A great Sunday morning Read…have a lovely day! Xx😀

I have good relationship with them. However, unlike you I wouldn’t be as nice, it would be full of Ursula’s and other baddies. I just can’t help myself. I need to stay on good terms with them as I wouldn’t survive with out my lovely assistants.

Your job sounds like a lot of stress, (not that I know anything about the markets!) it must be a relief to come home to your beautiful family and your baking!

Thank you, Jacqui. Capital Markets is very stressful with lots of deadlines. That is why I started baking – it helps relieve the stress and, as I do it with Michael, it is a nice way to spend time together.
