#Thursday Photo Prompt – Fading

Sue Vincent has given us the word fading and the photograph above for her Thursday photo prompt. You can join in the fun here: https://scvincent.com/2017/09/07/thursday-photo-prompt-fading-writephoto/. This is what this combination conjured up for me.

Fading

Our holiday

feels long ago

the memory’s almost gone.

I do remember

we had fun

it was warm and the sun shone.

During winter

I can’t recall

the summer’s blazing heat.

From the bitter cold

into the house

I gratefully retreat.

The reverse is true

I must admit

when blossoms announce the spring.

Of winter’s aching bones

and chilblained toes

I can’t remember a thing.

Why is it that

these memories fade

but others stay so bright?

My son’s sweet face

and scrunched up eyes

come back without a fight.

His first lusty cry

before being latched

onto his Mother’s breast.

Are amongst the memories

I treasure most and

which I remember best.
